Montana Q Making Waves with the Kingsford® $40K Challenge in Grand Junction

Powering through its third year, The Kingsford® $40K Challenge is awarding prize money to the Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and the four category winners at 15 KCBS sanctioned events. The Kingsford® $40K Challenge made its 11th stop at the Colorado Pork and Hops Challenge in early September, awarding the best of the best with checks and Kingsford® swag.

Representing the younger BBQ teams, Tom Muau and his Montana Q BBQ team rocked the house at the Colorado Pork and Hops Challenge. The team’s brisket has received many accolades across several audiences as the team both competes and vends.  Montana Q’s brisket certainly made waves in Grand Junction with their first place call and score of 174.8572. Their secret? Kingsford® charcoal of course! 

“Not only is Kingsford® a great starter, it also boasts great flavor and is readily available wherever we travel!” said Muau, who usually cooks with hickory or mesquite Kingsford®.  In addition to Kingsford®, Muau mixes apple and peach flavored wood to develop his perfect flavor profile. “I’m always mixing!” said Muau.
