The Kingsford® Points Chase
A home run for Quau at American Royal
Oct 09, 2012
Like the World Series themselves invites only the best teams, the American Royal, The World Series of Barbecue®, welcomes only the cream of the crop to compete in this grand slam of a competition. And, like the World Series, The American Royal proves to be one heck of a showing year after year.
Having been practicing all season long, and packing a handful of strong wins, Quau showed up to the American Royal with high expectations. With the follow through of champions, the team walked away as the Reserve Grand Champion of Open division and scored big with the Kingsford® $40K Challenge as well.
For Quau, it has always been the obvious choice to use Kingsford® charcoal. In their 12 years in the competition circuit, Kingsford® has always been by their side.
“Because it lights so easily, we have always used the standard ‘blue and white’ bag to start our cooker,” said lead Pitmaster, Mike Wozniak. “Then, I can fill my firebox with Kingsford® Competition and forget about it for several hours as [the combination] provides a longer burn time.”
A good bag of Kingsford® charcoal is comparable to a baseball player’s bat. It’s tough to win without it! Taking a look at Quau’s record of six category Brisket wins and seven second place wins in 2012 alone, it’s clear the team has found the perfect fuel power for their smoker.
Being called for the Reserve Grand Champion position out of 525 teams is certainly a home run hit for Quau and they ran the bases with the Kingsford® $40K Challenge all the way home.
