Weekend Warrior: Bald Hawg BBQ

Share this article:
February 9, 2017

Ever wonder what it takes to score a perfect 180 or more than 700 at a contest?! So do we! In fact, we thought it was time to start finding out. We recently talked with Andrew Cloer of Bald Hawg, who accomplished both of those amazing numbers a few weeks ago at the Brasstown Valley Resort BBQ Throwdown competition! Here's some of the great info he shared with us:

The air was cool, but the competition was HOT in the North Georgia Mountains during the Brasstown Valley Resort BBQ Throwdown!

“Looking at the list of teams the week before, there were some perennial nationally ranked teams and a bunch of teams that would be capable of taking home the Grand” stated Cloer, “I knew I would have to be on top of it just to try and compete with those guys and gals.”

Cloer was ready for the ACTION! This is Cloer’s FIRST EVER 180 and his third 700!

Over All Score: 701.0972

Pork: 178.8572

Brisket: 180

We asked Cloer what suggestions he had for those who are ready to bring the heat at their next competition, and this is what he proclaimed:

•Know what properly cooked meats are

•Practice hitting that “mark” again and again

•Once you hit that mark, focus on flavor combinations
