2011’s Inaugural Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour was such an enormous success, it’s hard to imagine that it could get better. Well, it did! The 2012 Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour will be upping the ante. The tour will have more locations, more teams and more prize money!
Can you say half a million dollars? The Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour can, as the tour will be giving away a whopping $500,000 in prize money this season!
The Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour does have a handful of rules changes that should be noted. There will be a total of 31 events this year, up from 26 events in 2011. The entry fee is $250 for each event. Remember, an additional $250 entry fee applies to each successive event that your team qualifies to compete in. Local contest Grand Champions will win $2,000. This year the TOP 6 teams from each of the local contests will win prize money and move on to the Regional events. Regional event Grand Champions will win $5,000. The TOP 10 finishers at each of the Regional events will win prize money, up from the top five last year. Fifty teams will compete in the National Championship event with the Grand Champion winning $50,000!
Teams can only register for one local contest, so choose wisely. Registration for the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour will begin on January 18, 2012, at 8PM EST. Teams who registered for last year’s tour know that the spaces go quick! Make sure you don’t forget. In 2011, over 250 teams had registered within the first 10 minutes and almost 400 teams had registered in the first hour.
When preparing to register, be sure to have your team name, KCBS member number and method of payment ready before registering. If you are not a KCBS member, you can join today by clicking here. If you have a PayPal account, also have your member ID and password ready.
If you would like to judge a contest, judges’ registration begins on January 23, 2012, at 8PM EST. All registrations will take place online at kcbs.us/sams-club-series.php.
Kicking off in Tampa, FL, on February 18, the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour will truly be a nationwide contest! The Regional events will be in Albuquerque, NM, St. Charles, MO, Madison, TN, Rockford, IL and Chesapeake, VA (locations subject to change). The National Championship event will be held again this year at Sam’s Club® Headquarters in Bentonville, AR, on October 13. Click here for the full schedule.
