These Quick Notes reflect the special meeting of the KCBS Board of Directors on August 15, 2012 and are not considered the official Minutes until approved by the board at its monthly meeting on September 12, 2012
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Executive Director Carolyn Wells, Candy Weaver, Mike Budai, Mark Simmons, Tana Shupe, Randy Bigler, Mike Lake, Paul Kirk, Arlie Bragg, Jeff Stith, Steve Farrin, Dave Compton and George Mullins.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Daniel Pomerantz, Jessee Doeinck and Troy Frassand
President Candy Weaver called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. central time.
Discussion of an incident and disciplinary action resulting from inappropriate behavior at the contest in McMinnville, TN. Was moved to Executive Session.
With no objections, the date change request for the Liberty Tree event in Dalton, Georgia was approved.
With no objections, approval of the King of the Smoker Invitational contest on Dec. 7-8 in Coachella, CA. was approved.
Paul Kirk made a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:10 p.m. Seconded by Mark Simmons, the motion passed unanimously. At 9:05 p.m. Steve Farrin moved to return to Open Session. Seconded by Jeff Stith, the motion passed unanimously and the following motions were made:
Tana Shupe made a motion that Troy Frassand and team Chokin "N" tha Smoke be placed on probation for one year effective August 11, 2012, and that they cannot be party to any other infractions of KCBS rules during that period. Any additional violations will be referred to the board for further disciplinary action. Seconded by Jeff Stith, the ayes were unanimous.
Tana Shupe made a motion that as of August 11, 2012, The Q Team, consisting of Daniel Pomerantz and Jesse Doeinck be banned from KCBS competitions for a period of three years, and thereafter be on probation for an additional period of two years. Any additional violations will be referred to the board for further disciplinary action. In addition, The Q Team will be disqualified from the contest in McMinnville, TN. and its scores will be removed. Seconded by Mike Budai the motion received seven ayes and two nays with two members abstaining; the motion passed.
Paul Kirk made a motion to adjourn at 9:12 p.m. Seconded by Jeff Stith, the motion passed.
