Four Crows takes home the bacon in BedfordSeptember 3, 2013
They say everything is bigger in Texas, and with Wright® Brand Bacon’s “Bigger, Better Bacon” on board, one can only imagine this past weekend at the Bedford Blues and BBQ Festival was simply exploding with greatness. Under the scorching Texas heat, the Destination: Bacon Domination contest set up for its third contest in the event series of six. Wright Brand Bacon invited teams to submit their tastiest bacon entries for bonus prize money and a trip to compete in the Bacon World Championship at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas.
The Texan teams were more than thrilled to showcase their bacon know-how for the hope of walking away from the weekend a little richer, not to mention, the judges enjoyed the brief change of taste from the standard barbecue turn-ins. There was certainly no shortage of creative incorporations of bacon in Bedford, but as with any contest, only one team would walk away with the bacon crown. With a perfect 180, Four Crows BBQ took home the first place call for their bacon apple dessert.
“We did multiple test runs for this [competition] before we settled on this [recipe],” said Delayne Crow, pitmaster for Four Crows BBQ. “We figured most people would do wrapped items, so we went a different route.” Delayne’s wife, Amanda, chimed in noting the dish was very “unique and delicious,” of which the judges most certainly agreed.
“We took bacon and fried it, chilled it, dipped it in chocolate, chilled it and then fried it in a funnel cake, and that was actually pretty good,” said Delayne. “But, [that recipe] did not beat out this one.”
After three years of competing, Four Crows BBQ is no stranger to the competition circuit however, the Bedford Blues and BBQ Festival marked their first event venturing in to the accessory categories.
“We usually don’t do anything else,” said Amanda. “But [this] turned out to be the best thing of the day!” followed Delayne.
Four Crows BBQ was beside themselves upon learning they’d be going to Vegas through their Wright Brand Bacon Destination: Bacon Domination win. But despite the win, the team is a lifelong supporter of Wright Brand Bacon.
“Best bacon ever made! You can’t beat Wright Brand Bacon,” said Delayne.
Between now and the Bacon World Championship, Four Crows BBQ has a stacked lineup of competitions, including a Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour regional event and the Royal.
Congratulations, Four Crows BBQ!
