ToY Tie NewsNovember 27, 2013
Who ever thought there’d be a TIE for Team of the Year? Odds of it are really unlikely! With only one contest to go, that’s where Team of the Year is with Truebud BBQ and Warren County Pork Choppers tied after Warren County Pork Choppers Grand Champion award in Plant City, Florida on November 16th. There’s been a scramble at KCBS looking for methods for breaking ToY ties. There was an article that turned up from the Bullsheet from 2006, but it dealt with ties in the old team of the year system. Turns out there was a motion passes unanimously in January 2011 which detailed a method on how to break a tie in the Team of the Year race. For purposes of ToY, there are the 4 meat categories and overall finish, which is treated just like the meat categories.
Detailed below is the method of breaking ToY ties and other related ToY issues:
Rules Committee Report – January 2011
The following changes to the rules for Team of the Year for the 2011 calendar year, are proposed. These will go into effect immediately.
1. In order to prevent a tie in the top 20 positions, the following procedures be applied. Look to the eleventh contest cooked by the tied teams. This contest score will be factored in with the other ten contest scores. Should this not break the tie, continue with contest 12 and so on until the tie is broken. Should a team not have cooked more than 10 contests; a zero will be input for the tiebreaking contest.
2. For Team of the Year purposes, a team shall be identified in the records of KCBS by name and head cook KCBS member number(s). Should a registered head cook not be present at a contest, that contest will not count towards team of the year points for that team. In the case of teams with multiple head cooks, those membership numbers will be associated with that particular team name and the above will not apply. Tabled at this meeting.
3. For Team of the Year purposes, the last contest of any year to qualify for points for that year will be held on the third weekend of December.
