Nominee information has hit the Bullsheet and kcbs.us. Votenet is set and ready for voting to begin in January. I am out of town and without access to my notes, but I believe that voting starts on the 1st and goes until the Friday or Saturday of the banquet.
Motion: I move that it be adopted that KCBS Reps be required to randomly spot check two teams at each contest the day prior to judging to verify that pork is a minimum of 4 pounds, that all meat is indeed unseasoned or marinated prior to inspection and legal cuts are being used. Said inspection would constitute the meat inspection for the two randomly selected teams.
Motion: I move that small incidental and accidental foreign objects such as a sliver of foil no longer be considered grounds for disqualification of a team's entry.
I would like to thank Phil Rizzardi, Neil Strawder, Mike Wozniak, David Hornby and Bill Moon for their service on the rules committee this year. Some of these guys have served on this committee for two years. Your service and dedication to KCBS is commendable and I appreciate your work and contributions.
As my time on the KCBS Board of Directors is coming to a close as of December 31, I would also like to thank all those members who supported my candidacy each of the two times that I ran. I have enjoyed my time serving the members of this great organization.

The IOTeam is pleased to report that we have added 3 more countries contest discussions from the Caribbean Barbecue Association (CBBQA), based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Our second year contest in San Juan has been moved to February 21-22, 2014 with a CBJ Class on the Thursday evening before the Friday Contest date. To date, 21 US Judges have applied to participate in the contest with 2 US competitive cooking teams attending. The CBBQA has also requested a sanctioned contest in Nassau, Bahamas for March 14-15 in conjunction with the Bahamas Culinary Association and the Bahamas Board of Tourism. The CBBQA is also working with contests sponsors in St. Thomas and the Dominion Republic for 2015.
The IOTeam has nominated two new International Reps to assist with the growth of contests in Ireland and the UK. Our first nominee resides in Northern England and has been a competitive cook in both the US and European Barbecue Circuit. We believe he has the best concept of the KCBS process of any European individual and is well respected by both teams and judges where he is known. He has worked with both Grill Stock Contests and the British BBQ Society.
Our second candidate is from Scotland but works in the States with a large financial consortium with offices in New York. He is a master KCBS Judge and has attended and been involved in every KCBS functions in Europe. He will be able to work not only European contests but also those contests in the US Northeast as he resides in Connecticut.
Since our last report we have added contests discussions in France and Switzerland. Organizers of both of these contests have been involved with the World Barbecue Association and have had successful bbq events with the sanctioning body. We expect contests in both of these countries in 2015. Our previous discussions with the Queen Victoria Market (QVM) has delayed for 2014 as there is just not enough time to put a sanctioned contest and CBJ Class for the March 2014 date. The QVM is a vibrant inner-city market offering a full range of fresh produce, local and imported gourmet foods to the attending public. The QVM has operated since 1878, and is a major part of the City of Melbourne where over 10 million people attend every year. The QVM is spread over more than two City blocks, is located in the heart of Melbourne and is easily accessible for the competing teams.
At the time of this report, I have just finished reviewing the latest version of the Score update and sent my notes to the developer.
The update is nearly finished. There is still a minor formatting issue with the new Turn-in Table report and another minor issue with submit results file. I expect both to be resolved this week and the new version will be sent to the entire Score Committee for final beta testing.
When the committee finishes its testing, the update will be ready for deployment.
I plan on going over the changes in the update at the annual rep meeting and if ready in time, have copies available for the reps.
The changes for this update were already approved by the president.
I motion that the board approves the distribution of the new KCBScore version when the KCBScore Committee completes its testing
Activity since last report:
1) Posted the KCBS board meeting recordings from 11/13/13 and 11/26/13 to our website.
2) Updated TOY section on our website to include how ties are broken.
3) Updated kcbs.us email and email groups as requested.
4) Started the update process on the office gateway to comply with 2048-bit certificates.
5) Cleaned malware from one office workstation.
I ask the board to accept this report.
Thanks to input requested from our wonderful and knowledgeable reps, we have compiled a list of about 30 Kids Ques and Backyard contests throughout the U.S. I have a meeting tomorrow with two organizers who are interested in adding a backyard contest to their 26-year contest, after which these lists will be published in The Bullsheet. Teams will be encouraged to compete in these contests and to contact other organizers to encourage them to add such ancillary contests to their events.
Most of the Kids Ques have few entries, and they often flounder after a few years, as almost to a contest, these Ques experience problems due to their difficulty getting sponsors and establishing uniform categories and rules; several are held without the benefit of KCBS assistance.
The number of backyard teams and backyard contests continues to grow and many of the backyard teams are interested in additional chances to compete and in greater visibility within the barbecue community for their efforts. This is obviously an area of opportunity for KCBS.
During our meeting we talked about an agenda for the banquet.

I would like to make the motion that The KCBS reps per diem be raised to the national average of $46.00 from the current $35.00.
I would like to make a motion that the following persons be consider for Rep in Training.

CBJ Committee Report:
The CBJ Committee met on December 4th. Twenty nine CBJ classes are already on the KCBS web site for 2014. Discussion was centered on CBJ classes being taught the same by all instructors. The CBJ instructor’s Power Point with updated slides is being distributed to all instructors.
As of the end of October; 65 Certified Barbeque Judging (CBJ) classes have been taught in 2013, four of those being international (Netherlands, England and Germany). There has been a total of 2801 Students with 1949 of these being new members.
KCBS has also had 22 Certified Table Captain (CTC) Classes with a total of 317 students.
The next CBJ Committee meeting is scheduled for January 7th.
Ad Hoc Committee:
Member’s Survey and Regional Representation:
A survey questionnaire of 11 questions was emailed to the KCBS membership.
Note: if you are a member and did not receive an email about the survey, please check your spam and if no email is found, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, membership number, and email address so the KCBS office can update your email address in our database.
The Committee and Board of Directors want to thank all who voted. We had 3,068 responses (17% of membership) to the survey. Although an issue was reported that if a member voted no on question number one that member was not allowed to continue the survey. Below are the questions and the results. As one can see questions 8, 9, 10 and 11 had skipped votes. Questions 1 through 7 received 3,068 votes total. The board has started informal discussions reviewing the survey with a meeting on November the 20th. As a reminder, this survey was to the membership so the Board could understand members’ thoughts so that the Board may review and may act in a way that they feel is to the best interest to KCBS and its members. Any change to how Board members are elected will require an official vote with approval by the membership. This committee along with the Board will continue to review this survey, but due to timing issues, there will be no by-laws changes to vote on in the January, 2014 election. Hopefully, with diligent review and work by this committee and the board, there will be something for the membership to vote on by January 2015.

We have gotten the new application for the Grants in Aid published in the December 2013 issue of the BullSheet and it should be in the January, February and March 2014 issues as well.
From what I have heard from our office staff, they really like the idea of e-mail applications as it cuts down on the flood of paperwork that normally comes in. I think that next year the Philanthropy Committee should consider doing away with paper applications completely and going with an online program.
I propose that we just use the existing application for the Charitable Grants program for this year and that the new Philanthropy Committee can work on revising that program next year.
I ask that the Board allow one, or possibly two, more e-blasts advertising our Grants in Aid and the Charitable Grants. Possibly that could be combined with another reminder asking for ideas for the Rules Committee to look at for 2015.
I ask that the Board accept this report.

Nothing to update. I will contact attorneys next week for eta on revisions
Mike B., Carolyn and I had a phone conference/data presentation with Stan Hays and Will Cleaver of BBQscores.com. Mike prepped data from 5 KCBS area contests for the input data. Carolyn and I were very impressed with the depth and breadth of the analysis. Will has requested more data in order to produce more relevant data. He would like raw contest data from contests in Kansas City area from August to end of year. He believes that the raw data does not need manual manipulation for his purposes. However, for the protection of all parties, a non-compete, non-disclosure agreement should be executed on both sides. I will discuss this with our attorneys.
I move that KCBS and BBQscores.com execute an agreement protecting the other from disclosure on confidential information and stating intentions not to compete with each other and that KCBS provide extended information required to make a full presentation to the board (probably in February).
Correction to motion that was incorrectly documented
1. In order to prevent a tie in the top 20 positions, the following procedures be applied. Look to the eleventh contest cooked by the tied teams. This contest score will be factored in with the other ten contest scores. Should this not break the tie, continue with contest 12. Should a team not have cooked more than 10 contests; a zero will be input for the tiebreaking contest.
I move that the corrected motion above be put to use immediately.
