Milwaukee Summerfest A Blast!

July 7, 2008
What a fantastic event!!! Summerfest is the world's largest music festival - yes, I said the WORLD'S LARGEST MUSIC FESTIVAL!! Eleven days, eleven stages and 700 bands! The event is right on Lake Michigan so it was nice and cool. Our location was fantastic as they have a "sky glider" ride that goes overhead from one end of the park to the other and when the riders got off, they walked right to the back of our trailer.

Being right on the main walkway, we got to see all the people walking by and wow, there were a lot of people. The event started on Thursday and we were kind of surprised at the large crowd until we found out that they shoot fireworks off on that opening night. The grounds, we were told, were a mile long and when we got a chance to walk it, it sure felt that way. Each stage was positioned so there really was not alot of music overlap, which was good since every genre of music was represented.

We had wonderful helpers at the event, especially Jennie who is the event organizer at an upcoming KCBS BBQ event in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. (The website for the event is www.thebigpiggig.com. Say that one five times fast!) She was a bundle of energy and even helped us on Saturday which was her birthday. We got her cupcakes and our demo crowd even joined in to sing Happy Birthday to her.

We had a major downpour in the afternoon right as the Marines came over for food samples. One Marine from KC just folded over his plate and held onto the leg of the tent. He said that they train in any weather and he had experienced worse. When we cook for the demo, we usually have some steak, chicken and hamburger left over and instead of it going to waste, I always try to look for our young men and women in uniform. They are always appreciative and we sure appreciate their service.

The event organizer that we dealt with was Laurie Cafe who was fantastic! She checked on us daily even though the event was so large. We are really looking forward to going back to Milwaukee next year on the '09 tour! If you have a chance to attend this event next year - we highly recommend it!  And if Jennie is any indication of the good time happening in Menomonee Falls, I would suggest getting "sauced" at the big pig gig the end of September!
