Sanctioning Committee
OCT 20, 2021
Members Attending: Randy Bigler, Charlie Brinza, Debbie Yopp, Candy Weaver, Corey Linton, Karrin Murphy, Sherry Byler and Myron Berry
Meeting began at 12:02 pm
An application from the Williamette Sportsman Show BBQ in Albany, OR was received under the 90 day in house guideline approval. This contest is normally in February, and they wish to move to early January 2022. With there being no conflicts, the committee recommends approval of this contest.
Discussion of conflict of an application for Edgerton, KS was discussed. There were 3 different dates suggested and all 3 had conflicts. The Dec 1 guideline for holding dates for contests applied to 2 of those dates. The organizer will be contacted.
Discussion of License contests: These contests are rarely held, and the initial goal was to have the contest come back the following year to become a sanctioned contest. Very rarely does a licensed contest come back the following year, the reps are not paid for their time at a license contest. The committee recommends that KCBS eliminate the license contest as we do not see any benefit to continuing it.
Discussion of the need for a sample prize letter that can be given to organizers and added to Organizers Guide and the Rep Guide. A draft will be made and submitted to the office.
Discussion of a Master series Senior Cook contest (Old School Contest) that would be open only to pitmasters that are 55 years of age or older. This could entice old school pitmasters that are not currently cooking to have the opportunity to compete in Old School Cooking. The committee recommends that the BOD discuss this suggested contest.
Meeting adjourned at 12:54pm

Rules Committee
The rules committee conducted their business in October via email rather than a zoom meeting. This accommodated schedule challenges that were encountered.
Attached you will find the final committee approved files for board approval.
In summary the following changes have been made since 2021 rule publication:
- The reduced punishment for an inadvertent speck of a foreign material in an entry (still maintaining the rule, just making the punishment more fitting to the spirit of preventing "marking").
- The long-awaited refinement to the Pork rule
- Including 9 Rep Advisories into the
Masters rules (making a one-stop location for rule clarification)
- Including 10 Rep Advisories into the Judging Procedures
- Separating Rules and Regulations from Judging Procedures in order to produce a tri-fold with larger font
- Kid Q rules refined - clarifying role of advisor is big.
The rules committee members have been true workhorses this year and I couldn't be prouder of their efforts for KCBS. I also want to share a thank you to as Board member Nancy Goldsmith for her efforts with formatting and proofing as we wrapped up our efforts.
Thank you,
Stan Dobosenski
