Chris Shores

Biography:

I am a native Tennessean who always had great BBQ in my life, even as a child.  My dad was passionate about BBQ and could tell you all the best little hole in the wall places in rural Middle Tennessee.  He was also well known for his skills cooking amazing BBQ.  I found myself with that same passion and have been working on my skill for many years.  I enjoy food and cooking so much that I went back to school and received a degree in Culinary Arts.  I have cooked BBQ in a catering capacity for many years and have fed thousands of happy customers.  My primary career in my adult life has been in the IT field.  I have worked in many industries including legal, banking, and medical.  I have held many positions, including Director of IT for a small financial company, and am currently in my thirteenth year as a System Administrator at a large medical Center.

Campaign Platform:

I would like to represent the entire membership population and support the KCBS mission of promoting BBQ as an American cuisine.  I will work to help both the cook teams and the judges live in harmony and create a family-like atmosphere at contests.  I would also lend IT insights to the KCBS and help make the flow of information to the members easier and more efficient.

Q: Please explain why you want to be a member of the KCBS Board of Directors and the skills you possess which would make you an asset as a board member.

I feel that I can provide valuable information obtained through my contact with judges throughout the BBQ season as well as share my vast personal knowledge from both my culinary knowledge and my extensive IT experience.  These attributes would help me be a great member of the KCBS Board of Directors and serve the membership to the best of my ability.

Q: Please describe your previous participation in KCBS activities and years of experience.

I’m approaching my sixth anniversary as a KCBS member.  In this time, I became a Certified BBQ Judge, Certified Table Captain, and Master Certified BBQ Judge.  As part of the requirements to become a Master Judge I competed in a professional contest as an individual to fully experience competition.

Q: As a board member, what do you believe are the major challenges currently facing KCBS?

From what I have heard through conversations at various contests, it seems like there is a real disconnect between the Judges and the Competition Teams. Coming up with a way to remedy this situation will take a Board of Directors that really care about the success of the KCBS and I feel I would be a great addition to that group.

Q: In dealing with these challenges, give an example of how your skills would serve the KCBS membership as a Director on the board.

My knowledge in the culinary field can provide the Board with helpful information and assistwith finding answers or solutions to issues and opportunities.  Also, my considerable IT experience would serve to help to deliver organizational information to the masses through the website and social media in a clear and easy to understand way.
