General Campaign Platform

As an official Candidate for the KCBS Board of Directors I want to say that I am thankful for this opportunity. I might not have the dozens of years of experience in every climb and place on the BBQ competition judge circuit, but I do have the charisma and a can-do attitude to get the job done. I am a natural ambassador who can authentically connect with anyone from any culture from any country. I have worked alongside so many ethnicities while serving in the military and attending university courses. I am dependable and want to make this organization the best it can be for the members and the competitors. I want to help spread the word about us even further and increase our membership, make KCBS a household name in BBQ, and create a fun environment for all those involved. Vote Matthew Ernest Ray!

Q: Please explain why you want to be a member of the KCBS Board of Directors and the skills you possess which would make you an asset as a board member.

I have a tremendous lifelong commitment to all things BBQ. I have taken pride in being a member of this organization since I started and continue to be an ambassador of KCBS whereverI go. Commitment to this organization extends past the judging table and therefore I would like to be a part of the board. Looking at what areas pose new growth opportunities and ways in which we can do what we do even better to promote BBQ culture is something I want to be apart of.

Q: Please describe your previous participation in KCBS activities and years of experience.

I have been a KCBS member for 2 years. I am a CBJ and a Table Captain. I am also a Memphis in May judge and have served on the World Championship BBQ Committee at the HoustonRodeo for 4 years. I have traveled to numerous states and cities to partake in the local BBQ culture and learn other pit master techniques. Continually honing my objective judging techniques and giving detailed feedback to competitors are the things I feel make a great judge.

Q: As a board member, what do you believe are the major challenges currently facing KCBS?

Standardize boxes for competitions and expanding our international presence. The boxes will aid in many ways for both the judges and the competitors. In regard to international competition, there are so many places and cultures that have not been discovered who most likely have wonderful techniques which to show the rest of the world. If we want to truly represent world championship caliber BBQ we need more world championship representation.

Q: In dealing with these challenges, give an example of how your skills would serve the KCBS membership as a Director on the board.

I bring contagious enthusiasm, amazing public speaking ability, a myriad of technical skills, and most importantly, an indefatigable devotion to KCBS!
