General Campaign Platform

This is Food Sport and it’s time we got back to having fun and enjoying it!
The original rule was that “none of it be taken seriously.”
Yes I know it’s an expensive hobby and a lot is invested by everyone to do what we all do but the fun has been sucked out of it. Make KCBS Fun Again!

Q: Please explain why you want to be a member of the KCBS Board of Directors and the skills you possess which would make you an asset as a board member.

I first Judged an event in April 2010, a Steak Championship in Magnolia, AR. Six judges tasted 82 pieces of steak and I was hooked. I started looking for where and how I can judge food contest and discovered KCBS. I’ve had a ball traveling the country meeting other Judges, Reps, Organizers, and especially Cooks. I’ve found a Family, a family that no matter how often you see each other it’s likes a family reunion every time. I feel we need to put the Fun & the Love back into our Family, our KCBS Family.
I have over 20 years experience in management including running my own Restaurant and a BBQ Food Truck. I’ve been the Chairman on other nonprofit organizations such as Relay For Life. I feel I have the experience, the drive, the right attitude to serve as a BOD Member with KCBS to help lead us into the future.

Q: Please describe your previous participation in KCBS activities and years of experience.

I first joined KCBS in 2010
I became a CBJ in Leadville, CO in 2015 and have since worked 30 events and about to earn my Master CBJ Certification.
I have Judged over 70 Food Sport Events for various Sanctioning Organizations/ Events across the country since April 2010.

Q: As a board member, what do you believe are the major challenges currently facing KCBS?

Training and educating our Judges as well as our Cooks on Scoring. Yes every cook feels they just cooked the best BBQ they ever had but the scores don’t reflect it. Was it bad or average  BBQ? OR was it bad Judging?
I feel when a Judge renews their membership they should be required to take a refresher course on Judging/ Rules.
The Judges and Cooks are Disconnected and this causes problems. We need to get back on the same page on what is required of the cooks and what is required of the Judges.

Q: In dealing with these challenges, give an example of how your skills would serve the KCBS membership as a Director on the board.

I interact with Cooks very well because I am a Cook. It’s my life. It’s how I support my Family. I feel we need to encourage better interacting between Cooks & Judges. We need to work on clearer understandings of the Judging, Scoring, Rules.
