KCBS Foundation Awards 16 Scholarships to Support Barbeque’s Next Generation

8/27/2024 Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, proudly announces the awarding of 16 scholarships for the 2024 academic year. 

Since 2015, the KCBS Scholarship Program has empowered 259 scholars with over $172,000 in financial aid, supporting the educational dreams of the next generation of our barbeque family.

To honor dedicated members, friends, and family have raised funds to create named scholarships. The KCBS Foundation is humbled to celebrate these meaningful legacies and to “bring the same light of community into the future” as Craig Layman Scholarship recipient Benjamin Profozich said. 

Dave Compton Scholarship: In memory of Dave Compton, a longtime KCBS Board Member and Master Judge, who spearheaded the transformation of the KCBS scholarship program. Recipient: Ella Hayes.

Craig Layman Scholarship: Honoring Craig Layman, a dedicated KCBS volunteer known for his inclusiveness and commitment to community service. Recipient: Benjamin Profozich.

Anne Lauer Scholarship: Celebrating the legacy of Anne Lauer, a Master Certified Barbecue Judge known for her passion for cooking and fostering community. Recipient: Gianna Delisio.

Marge Plummer Scholarship: In memory of Marge Plummer, a legendary CBJ known for her kindness and service, with over 400 contests to her name. Recipient: Gracie DuPont.

George Stone Scholarship: Honoring George Stone, a beloved member of the BBQ circuit who brought warmth and encouragement to all, especially the children of BBQ competitions. Recipient: Jordan Jackson.
